Akismet rocks!

Friday, October 6th, 2006

I though email spam was bad but comment spam is getting ridiculous these days. Part of the reason I haven’t been keeping up with krazykoolkrap these days is having to manage all the spam comments I am was recieving. Thank God that I found Akismet. I installed it last early last week and I haven’t had a single comment spam yet.

Advanced church sign generator

Thursday, October 5th, 2006

It’s always nice to see new church sign generators popping up on the web. This one has some great features including a way in upload your own photo. So get out there and take your own photo of the church you love the most.

Click mouse where you wish to have caption start (imagine your caption as a rectangle shape, the mouse pointer would be pointing at the top left corner of the caption image).

Maybe if Walmart carried celery

Retail sales rise sharply in September (AP)

In this May 10, 2006, file photo, salesman Spencer Stevens looks for a pair of shoes for a customer at the Brown's Shoe Fit Co. in Newton, Iowa. Shoppers, encouraged by cooler temperatures and easing gasoline prices, went on a shopping spree in September, resulting in better-than-expected gains for many merchants and lifting the industry's spirits in advance of the holiday season. (AP Photo/Charlie Neibergall)AP - Shoppers, encouraged by cooler temperatures and falling gasoline prices, went on a shopping spree in September, giving many retailers better-than-expected gains and lifting the industry’s spirits two months before the holiday season. A notable exception was Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

Of course you all have read that I have on a number of occasions I visited Walmart to find that they were out of jalapeños but this last weekend’s trip was the kicker. I couldn’t find any celery!?!? WTF Walmart? You had plenty of fresh dill (what????), but no celery. Maybe the "Superstore" idea wasn’t your best.

UGH!!!! Myspace

Friday, June 2nd, 2006

So, I finally setup a myspace profile and added a few friends.  I have had an account there for quite sometime, only for the reason of spying on my oldest daughter.  She’s 16, can you blame me?  She knows that I spy on her and she makes sure there isn’t anything incriminating so its pretty useless, but at least I can monitor what pictures she makes public.

I know the draw of myspace and I think the creator was a genius, but me being a techie kind of guy, I pretty much have come to the conclusion that myspace sucks ass!  I’m not going to go into why I think it sucks because you can find info like that all over the web.  Check here!

What I did find interesting is that not a single person from my graduating HS class is on myspace.  Now granted, they would have to actually fill out that part in thier profile so maybe they don’t want people to know where they went to high school, or just don’t give a shit.  Or, it could be that myspace search just plain sucks.  Ok, I know I said I wasn’t going to go into this but this is my blog damn it!  When I’m looking for someone on myspace I actually use Google because I can’t seem to find anyone using their search.  You would figure that having a good search would be a pretty big priority.  Also, the instant messaging has been broken forever.  If they aren’t going to fix it just remove it, everyone is used to it not being there by now.

Well, I can bitch and moan all I like but it doesn’t change the fact that I have succumbed to the devil that is myspace.  If you are one of the devil’s children like me feel free to add me as a friend.

Vibrators

Thursday, March 23rd, 2006

No, not the type that are shaped like the male anatomy.  Or even the ones that women call "personal massagers", which clearly they are made with only one thing in mind. Maybe they call them this to make themselves feel less dirty.

This specific vibrator is a alarm clock.  You place the nifty bad shaker under your mattress or pillow and when your alarm goes off the whole bed will shake.  The company promises that even the most sound sleeper will wake up using this product.  From personal experience I have slept though earthquakes that registered almost six on the Richter scale, so I’m not too sure if what the company claims is true.   Maybe the combination of a really annoying sound and the bed shaking would do the trick.

Pick yours up here, and by the way, don’t ask how I found this

Dialidol Back Up

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006

My man over at dialidol has gotten himself a lawyer.

As you can see, DialIdol is back online. There was no legal case to begin with but I had to make sure with professional legal advice. I suppose FremantleMedia might chose to push the issue further but I hope not. I have changed the DialIdol logo and made a few other cosmetic changes but other than that DialIdol is still the same old web site.

I’m glad that he stuck to it and got his site back up.  If you are a fan of American Idol, go grab the dialer and lets see just how much we can manipulate the results.  Even if you aren’t a fan you still might want to "stick it to the man". So download the software and set it to vote for my favorite to win, Taylor Hicks.

So Dumb It’s Great!

Monday, March 20th, 2006

I love stupid websites that let you create stupid things.  Today I have discovered the Church Sign Generator website.  I have been making my own personal church signs for the last hour.  It’s dumb I know, but oddly addicting.  Send me yours and I will post it here.

The wife out does me everytime.

Using a Cell Phone on the Toilet

Monday, March 20th, 2006

Should one email or text message while sitting on the can?  The International Center for Bathroom Etiquette has some good information on this very subject:

I mean really think about it. Everything that you touch with your hands is a source of possible contamination - especially out in public where you have no idea what filthy bastards have been using the bathroom before you. So if you touch something, and then touch your Blackberry, you are pretty much coating that Blackberry with feces. Really. And that’s pretty gross when you think about it.

I imagine that not many people actually do this but I have been in the bathroom and heard someone playing a game on their phone.  If you are touching things in the bathroom, touching your phone, and later putting that phone up to your face, you are pretty much putting other peoples’ ass matter on your face.  That’s just plain nasty!  Bottom line is that unless its a life and death you shouldn’t be handling any cell phones / pda’s while visiting the bathroom.

Check out more great bathroom etiquette over at icbe.org.

Dialidol Shutdown

Friday, March 17th, 2006

Looks like dailidol was shutdown sometime last week.  The guy who designed the software that logs the frequency of busy signals while voting on American Idol to predict the outcome has taken his site down because of a cease and desist letter issued from Fox.

Goliath (as they will be known for the purposes of this bulletin) sent this "David" a cease and desist letter yesterday claiming that DialIdol infringes on copyrights they own. I am not sure how they think I infringe and many of the allegations they made in the letter are false but in order to protect myself I am taking DialIdol down while I consult with the appropriate resources.

Goliath is very upset with the entire premise of this web site, particularly the way DialIdol "measures the busy signal" to predict the results. Given this I find it highly unlikely that I can change a few logos/colors/names to satisfy their concerns.

I don’t think he did anything wrong.  Maybe Fox should take their head out of their asses and figure out how to fix the flaw that was so easily discovered by the creator of dialidol instead of flexing their muscles with legal bullshit.

Read my original post about dialidol here.
